The Unbreakable Perception Mask
Pattern: [The Owl Mask](https://makerworld.com/en/models/2484833-the-owl-mask?from=search#profileId-2729587) by Surge Designs, from MakerWorld.
The idea of making it had been following me around ever since I found it in the MakerWorld catalog — the leathery, copper-like structure with an aged patina looked simply stunning. Fitting turned out to be the tricky part — there's no simple recipe for sizing the mask to a head circumference, so it took a few attempts (and a few rejects) before I landed on the right proportions.
It wasn't easy
The mask is remarkably uncomfortable to wear — what finally solved the chafing was a few strategically placed pieces of foam (pipe insulation, of all things). The material is PETG — since the mask has to survive leaving the safety of home, the choice was simple. An extra layer of clear coat protects it from sun and weather — though I have a feeling a matte finish would actually look better.

Pomysł na jej wykonanie chodził za mną, odkąd znalazłem ją w katalogu MakerWorld — skórzasto-miedziana struktura z postarzaną patyną wyglądała wprost niesamowicie. Trochę problemów sprawiło dopasowanie — nie ma prostego przepisu na rozmiar maski według obwodu głowy, więc dopiero kilka prób (i odrzutów) doprowadziło mnie do właściwych proporcji.
Nie było łatwo
Maska jest niesamowicie niewygodna w noszeniu — temat otarć załatwiły dopiero strategicznie rozmieszczone fragmenty gąbki (otulina do wyciszeń, a jakże). Materiał to PETG — skoro całość ma przeżyć wynoszenie poza środowisko domowe, wybór był prosty. Dodatkowa warstwa lakieru clear coat daje osłonę przed słońcem i warunkami atmosferycznymi — chociaż wydaje mi się, że matowy wyglądałby lepiej.
